Supplies

All supplies will be included in the course fees, except the following:

1, Hardcover Book/ size approx. (please note this book will be used in the second course)

Please bring one or more old, discarded, hardback books that will be reused and altered (and embellished) to use as multi- media journals. Your book should have a strong spine and binding with no loose pages. If you don’t have a book at home, these books can be found quite inexpensively at thrift stores.

I will have some spare old books available, but often if a student has a special interest, or line of inquiry, a book that holds special meaning (ie subject matter /title etc.) works better as a starting point to making art.

These books must be of no value from a reading/ownership point of view, as they will be embellished and changed.

2, For both classes, in addition to a hardcover book, students

should bring numerous small personal objects that can be incorporated into their personal work. An example of this will be discussed more in the first class, but these often include:

 Small personal artifacts,

Comics/ illustrations,

Small drawings/artwork,

Photographs,

Found and reused objects.

Multi Media Personal Art Explorations:-

…asks that students ‘Think Outside the Box’ (the box being previous art

lessons often taught in schools) and trust their own unique creative process, style and skills. This gives students more than just a focus on their finished art, supporting an opportunity to gain confidence and explore personal interests and meaning in art making.

These courses encourage students to be actively engaged in the meaning and content of their art making practice.

Art made with personal meaning offers students the opportunity to learn new art techniques and skills, but always within the context of what the individual wishes to say and create. Because of this, the process of making art is just as important as the finished piece .
